Meet the Team
Who’s who at Surefire Plumbing
Directors

Billy started the business in 1985 and still plays a very active role, including conducting surveys and post-installation quality control visits.

Glenn served his apprenticeship with Surefire Plumbing way back in the last century, then moved on to work with EDF energy and subsequently Southern Gas Networks in a management role. He has now re-joined the fold and is responsible for all field operations, including health & safety and quality control.
Office Staff

Mary-Anne, who recently passed her Open University degree, has been with us for over 5 years managing all things financial. Her job is made easier because our happy customers pay on time.

With over 15 years’ experience within the industry, Lisa ensures everything runs smoothly both in the office and for our engineers. A vital role in the Surefire Plumbing team!

A relative newcomer to the industry, Lee brings office procedures from his previous banking background, where there was little or no room for mistakes. He instills processes from his previous career in an already well run office.

Alex is in the office to support day to day operations, including the smooth & efficient running of our field engineers’ diaries. It is rumoured he used to be a professional Postman Pat impersonator!

With several years industry experience, Laura is often the first point of call for customers looking for advice. She keeps the engineers diaries in check and schedules a large portion of their appointments, ensuring they are routed efficiently.

Richard joined the business in 2021, coming from an IT sales background. Originally from Birmingham, he has lived in South East London since the 90’s and brings a wealth of experience to the team, in particular with his logistics experience, helping the engineers keep on time whilst running at their optimum.

Sarah has vast experience in accounts working in the city but now works locally to spend more time with her daughter. She provides critical support to Mary-Anne in aspects such as invoicing and payroll.

As an assistant to Mary-Anne in the accounts department, Fran, as she is known, is not one to be messed with, woe betide anyone who hasn’t paid their bill on time.
Field Engineers

Apart from Billy, Paul is the longest standing member of staff now in his 23rd year, known as the Oracle, if he can’t fix it, it can’t be fixed.

Stuart is an exceptionally experienced and professional engineer who worked for Surefire Plumbing in the 1990’s before leaving and starting his own company. He has now returned to the business to support our younger generation of plumbers and show them how it’s done!

Gary is a highly respected engineer both within Surefire Plumbing and the wider community. He is a sounding board for the younger engineers and takes charge of our hectic emergency call-out schedule.

Trained here from the age of 16, Andrew spent a couple of years in Canada, where he picked up some handy carpentry skills. He is now our most senior Installer in the field.

John has vast experience in all aspects of plumbing & heating having tackled both installations and maintenance in his career. His versatility, knowledge & composure are qualities that make him a highly valued member of the team.

Paul used to manage our local merchant branch of Wolseley where he was responsible for the spares division. Paul has an encyclopaedic knowledge of boiler spares which is invaluable whilst servicing & maintaining boilers.

Jack has been servicing our customer’s boilers for over 5 years now and constantly receives customer praise for his polite and friendly demeanour. Always carrying out services with a smile!

George was shortlisted for apprentice of the year and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Now a fully qualified gas engineer, he is the cheeky chap of the team and a firm favourite with our customers.

A core senior member of our experienced breakdown team, Paul has a truly vast amount of knowledge. Specialising in many of the older and rarer boilers in our customer homes, he has an especially impressive ability to impersonate the noise of every boiler he visits!

Smiley, a perfect description for Gary. With over 40 years’ experience in servicing and maintaining heating systems, it’s hard to believe he goes about his business each and every day with the same happy smiley attitude he had over 40 years ago, a proper gentleman.

Jamie is a fantastic all-rounder, whether it’s a boiler installation, a faulty heating system, or a leaking radiator, he has all the skills required to sort your problem out with a happy go luck attitude. A pleasure to work with and to have working in your home.

Rob joined us in 2021 after 20 years with British Gas. An extremely experienced heating breakdown engineer, Rob has fitted in like a glove with his ‘no nonsense’ ‘get on with it’ attitude, which makes him a credit to the company.

Joe started off as an apprentice and has since evolved into one of our most capable young plumbers. He also knows heating systems and is seen as a “go-to” guy. A real credit to the company.

Chris has been with us for 3 years now and is an extremely hard worker who always pays attention to detail on his jobs. He works almost as hard on the job as he does in the gym!

Sam is another of our rising stars. He is an extremely conscientious and thorough young installer who has been with us since he was a first year apprentice, and is now a (very proud) fully-fledged gas installer!

Chris is currently working as an understudy and greatly enhancing his skill set. An unassuming and pleasant chap, Chris is already showing huge potential to be a great engineer in the future.

Tom is working on his plumbing qualifications from college whilst working with us. A fast-learner with a can-do attitude, Tom has always wanted to be a qualified engineer and we hope to help him to realise his goals.
Improvers / Apprentices

Connor started his apprenticeship in London before joining Surefire Plumbing to work locally. A very capable young guy, customers love his charisma and sense of humour especially working alongside his mentor, George!

Jake is a local lad who recently moved from another firm in order to challenge himself more. He has a real hunger to learn and progress, a quality which will undoubtedly see him flourish under the tutelage of his mentor, Lee.

Connor is working alongside his Dad (John) as a first year apprentice, which as a family business was an opportunity we were delighted to be able to take to see Connor flourish under his tutelage.

Ollie is one of our newest (and biggest) recruits. A pleasant well-mannered young man, whose attitude and keenness to learn is a credit given his young age. You will definitely see Ollie coming, he’s a BIG STRONG lad.

Charlie has already impressed her college lecturer, reaching top of the class in her first years exams! The daughter of one of our most experienced heating engineers, we can only hope she reaches the heights her dad (Gary) has got to. A lovely young lady with great aspirations.
Drivers & Handymen

Rob has worked in the building & maintenance industry his entire career, with experience in brickwork & making good being paramount to his role in making good on our jobs. He liaises with our Installation team each day to ensure they have everything they need to keep the cogs turning.

Cliff has been with the firm almost 15 years now. He keeps the cogs turning for our installations department, whether delivering parts or carrying our flawless brickwork, do not let his age fool you.
